Born in Vienna, Mato Johannik is a graduate of the well-renowned Brooks Institute for Photography in Santa Barbara. Assisting legends such as Greg Gorman, Steven Klein and David Lachapelle, he got the ropes of high end celebrity portraiture.
Early in his career Mato explored narratives of street fashion and documentary photography, creating a body of work which foreshadowed the fast paced aesthetics of social media advertising. An unparalleled ability to capture his subjects with intimate nonchalance and candid immediacy imparts Mato’s images a true-to-life character, bearing his signature style.
As a visual artist, curator, panel speaker, creative director and magazine publisher, he does not lack the experience and hands on mentality to tackle challenges way beyond other’s comfort zone.
